Andalem at the Ethio-Japanese Investment Seminar August 2014

The Ethio-Japan investment seminar took place at the Addis Ababa Hilton Hotel on Monday August 25th, 2014. The Seminar brought Japanese, Ethiopian businesses and high level Ethiopian government Officials for interesting presentations and discussions.

The Japanese delegation, led by H.E. Hirotaka ISHIHARA, parlamentary vice minister for Foriegn Affairs and Member of the House of representatives, brought distinguished business officials from ITOCHU Corp., KAJIMA Corp., IHI Corp., HIROKI Co. Ltd, SUMITOMO Corp., SOJITZ Corp., Deloitte Tohmatsu, TOYOTA TSUSHO, NISHIMURA & ASAHI, JGC Corp., NEC, BMC International, MARUBENI Corp., MTSUI & Co, MITSUBISHI Corp., and others. I was particularly impressed by the size and experience of the companies, and their commitment to Ethiopia and Africa at large. Most of them have are also engaged in social responsibility projects, playing a significant role in helping our efforts to fight against poverty.

Ethiopia and Japan have enjoyed long standing relations and both are nations with an ancient history and civilization. Japan has demonstrated a real and dependable friendship for Africa, it has collaborated in agriculture, water resources, health, education and infrastructure, and has provided a wide range of development support in the form of grants and technical cooperation. Japan has also been supporting social sector development in Ethiopia, providing numerous scholarships in various fields including agriculture and infrastructure. It has provided significant support through JICA, the Japanese Government Aid implementing body, for various kinds of capacity building programs and technical cooperation projects.

It gives me great pleasure to see the renewed confidence of the Japanese private sector to strengthen the still to be developed relationship between the two countries and aspire to support these companies not only do business in Africa, but also give them the institutional framework to better promote the good things they do in ways that build communities and grows their visibility in Africa.
